Art for Adults, Bringing Creativity
Back into Adult Life

the problem

As children, we draw, paint, and create without fear.

As adults, creativity often gets replaced by productivity.

People tell themselves:

  • “I’m not artistic.”
  • “I don’t have time.”
  • “I don’t know where to start.”

During the COVID lockdowns, this became even more apparent. People were spending long hours at home looking for meaningful activities beyond screens, work, and endless scrolling.

There was an opportunity to create something that was:

  • Creative but approachable
  • Relaxing, not skill-based
  • Fun for beginners
  • Capable of producing something tangible and useful

the idea

What if making art didn’t require talent?

What if anyone could create something beautiful in under an hour?

Art for Adults was created to make creativity accessible again through simple, beginner-friendly art experiences.

Our first product was a Fluid Art Kit that included:

  • Acrylic paints
  • Coasters
  • Mixing materials
  • Step-by-step instructions

The goal wasn’t to create a masterpiece.

The goal was to help people experience the joy of creating something with their own hands, and end up with a functional object they could proudly use at home.

How I built this

This wasn’t just an art kit. It was an attempt to lower the barrier to creativity.

1. Product Design

The kit was designed around simplicity.

  • No prior art experience required
  • Minimal setup
  • High chance of creating something visually appealing
  • Clear instructions for first-time creators

Fluid art was chosen because it produces unique and beautiful results without requiring technical skill.

2. Functional Creativity

Most DIY projects end up stored away or forgotten.

By using coasters as the canvas, every artwork became something useful.

Participants weren’t just creating art, they were creating objects they could use daily or display at home.

3. Community & Distribution

The kits were launched during the lockdown period and sold directly online.

  • Priced at ₹350 per kit
  • Shipped across India
  • More than 50 kits sold

The experiment helped validate that people were willing to spend money on creative experiences, not just products.

4. Learning Through Customers

One of the most interesting discoveries was that many buyers did not identify themselves as “creative.”

Customers purchased the kits because:

  • They wanted a break from screens
  • They were looking for a relaxing activity
  • They wanted something to do with family members or partners
  • They enjoyed creating something tangible

The biggest insight was that adults don’t stop being creative, they simply stop being given easy opportunities to create.
